Upland Software Announces Acquisition Of BA Insight For $33.4M In Cash

Upland Software, parent company of FileBound and PSIcapture, has announced the $US34 million acquisition of BA-Insight, a provider of enterprise search solutions.

February 24, 2022

“Our acquisition of BA Insight was driven by our customers’ needs, specifically in the business services, life sciences, and legal industries, where knowledge workers are spending wasted hours using ineffective enterprise search tools trying to track down the right documents to do their work,” said Rod Favaron, President of Upland.

“This is because most enterprise search technology does not connect to all relevant sources, is generic in its taxonomy when it should be specialized, and never gets better. BA Insight solves these major search challenges facing specialized knowledge teams today.”

BA Insight promises to provide a way to conduct searches that span enterprise systems to deliver relevant, personalized, and actionable results, with a technology that:
Eliminate the blind spots by connecting search to many different systems and applications;
Unify search results with the ability to set up the correct, specialized taxonomies to organize, retrieve, and sort the most relevant documents;
Delivers increasingly relevant results using analytics and machine learning to make each search better; and
Place a search bar wherever the user wants it so they can search natively in target applications or across all the applications they use every day.

This acquisition marks the third in Upland’s knowledge management product portfolio.

BA Insight Invests in Strategic Development of Next-Generation Analytics Platform

Partners with NGAGE Intelligence to Bring Innovative New Products to the Legal Market.

Boston, MA – January 9, 2017 –BA Insight and NGAGE Intelligence announce a strategic and exclusive technology, sales and marketing partnership. Together they will develop and bring to market a new analytics platform enabling customers to gain unparalleled insight into user interaction across multiple systems.  This next generation analytics product will leverage technology from both companies as well as the latest in business intelligence from Microsoft including Power BI and Stream Analytics.

The first phase of the partnership will produce an all-new NGAGE platform that can run in the cloud or on-premises and will provide powerful new analytics for iManage, Thomson Reuters Elite, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, Salesforce.com and SharePoint (2013, 2016 and O365/SharePoint). This platform is already under development and expected to be available in Q2 2017. In addition, the new NGAGE for SharePoint offering will integrate with BA Insight’s Smart Analytics product to provide deep insight into search and content consumption.

The partnership is focused on providing law firms with unprecedented insight into how their key systems are being used.  Benefits from the new solution include:

  • Driving User Adoption and Engagement.  The business value of any application is a function of how widely and consistently it is adopted by its target user population.  By connecting an application to the NGAGE platform you can intervene early and accurately where there are adoption problems, learn what works, and make continuous, measurable improvements.
  • Increasing ROI and Productivity. Adoption is just the start; the real ROI in an application is in the improved individual and team productivity that flows from it being used well. NGAGE can give you all the insights you need to develop, target and track the effectiveness of training around best practice.
  • Improving Governance, Risk Management and Compliance. The more critical an application, the more it brings reputational, legal and commercial risks. NGAGE can help you predict and manage those risks while enabling you to track, manage and improve users’ compliance with corporate standards.

“We are investing in developing the next generation of analytics with an outstanding partner at a pivotal time to provide our customers with a new level of insight and intelligence about their systems.  NGAGE has deep experience in analytics, unique technology, and a track record of innovation,” said Massood Zarrabian, CEO of BA Insight. “Together, we’re able to bring a ground-breaking solution to market very quickly, as well as leverage new Microsoft capabilities at a time that law firms and other organizations are starting to realize how valuable analytics tools can be for the systems and processes inside their firewalls.”

“BA Insight and NGAGE Intelligence have a lot in common – a shared vision around insight from cross-system analytics, a strong track record with law firms, and a Microsoft orientation.  We are incredibly excited about our potential together,” said Paul Henry, Chief Executive of NGAGE Intelligence. “BA Insight’s strong presence in the market gives us a way to reach many more customers, and their ground-breaking approach to search analytics is completely complementary to our technology.  Customers will also benefit from BA Insight’s broader product portfolio – they can identify required improvements with best-in-industry analytics and implement those improvements quickly with pre-packaged products.”

BA Insight Brings External Content Into O365

Adds 50+ connectors, content enrichment to Online Search, Delve, and DLP

Boston, MA – July 27, 2015 – BA Insight announces availability of our Connectors for Hybrid SharePoint. This out of the box software works in conjunction with Microsoft’s new Cloud Search Service Application (Cloud SSA) to bring content into a unified search index running in Office 365. For the first time, organizations can use an online search facility, run by Microsoft, to provide a unified view across all content enterprise-wide.
All of BA Insight’s connectors can now feed into Office 365, integrating over 50 systems including EMC Documentum, OpenText LiveLink, IBM FileNet, Box, Jive, Salesforce.com, Microsoft Dynamics CRM, IBM Connections, and many more.
This content feeds several key parts of Office 365:
  • Search, including search centers and all applications built on search in O365
  • The Office Graph, making external content visible through Office Delve experiences.
  • O365 Data Loss Prevention (DLP), which scans content and ties to the Compliance Center within O365.
The new Cloud Search Service Application is an important first step in our hybrid cloud vision and strategy for SharePoint. With BA Insight’s products, Office 365 customers can now take advantage of our cloud experiences for all of their content,” said Bill Baer, Microsoft’s Senior Technical Product Manager for SharePoint. “BA Insight has worked closely with Microsoft for years, and we’re thrilled to see them release great products in lockstep with our new hybrid search.  In addition, BA Insight’s investments also enrich and add more value to this new offering by adding CEWS and entity extraction to their product – which aren’t supported with the Cloud SSA.”
“Hybrid is the new reality for SharePoint. Our proven connectors give customers a way to add all their important content to Office 365, and use hybrid as an on-ramp to the cloud” said Jeff Fried, CTO of BA Insight. “We’re seeing a lot of interest from organizations of all types. They can use the Cloud SSA to reduce the footprint and administrative effort of search, and still get to content from many different places. Enterprise customers have told us this is what they needed to start seriously using O365, and that it will populate Delve to make it truly useful.”
