– New microbial sealant is cleared for U.S. launch –
WYOMISSING, Pennsylvania, July 28, 2009 — Adhezion Biomedical, LLC, a surgical device company, today announced that the FDA has provided marketing clearance for its FLORASEAL™ microbial sealant. FLORASEAL microbial sealant is the first and only pre-surgery sealant that does not require an activator. It is indicated for use in surgical applications.
“We believe that FLORASEAL, produced from our proprietary OctylFlex™ Technology, provides surgeons and other hospital personnel with the versatility to be used in a wide range of surgical procedures that currently have limited options for infection prevention,” said Pete Molinaro, CEO.
Microbial sealants are designed to immobilize skin bacteria, including bacteria hidden deep within skin, which surgical preps may leave behind. The immobilization can lead to reduced wound contamination both during and after surgical procedures.
“Because FLORASEAL brushes onto the skin rather than sits on the skin like a tape, it effectively covers every contour on the body. What’s more, it continues to provide microbial protection long after the surgery is complete. As a result, we expect FLORASEAL to have a huge impact on the overall prevention of surgically induced infections.” says Manuel Rodriguez, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Adhezion.
